A Visit with Pastor Dave

Dear Friends,

Our congregation is filled with so many inspiring people! One of the recent arrivals is David Samuelson. David is a retired United Methodist pastor from the east coast. In addition to the United Methodist Church, Pastor Dave also served with the Salvation Army. On the first Sunday of April, we had the joy of helping Dave celebrate his 90th birthday. He treated us all to some delicious birthday cake.

Before his move to Pacific Beach, the Rev. Samuelson was living in Oceanside. He came farther south so that he could really be close to his daughter. He lives now in the Luther View apartments on Cass Street. As every church member does (praise God), Pastor Dave has brought with him his many talents and enthusiasms. I have been delighted to discover that this very experienced clergyman is still excited about calling on church members and staying in touch with friends of the congregation.

Some of you have met Pastor Dave. He may have sent you a note, called you on the phone, or knocked on your door. Some of you have even been encouraged back to church because of his friendly contact. His goal is simply to be a kindly reminder of the love of God and the thoughts and prayers of the church toward each person he contacts.

I am always thrilled when someone has a vision and a plan, and the energy and commitment to put the plan into action. David's efforts are helpful to me, because he shares with me what he has learned about the joys and challenges of your lives. Pastor Dave drives only in Pacific Beach, and only in the daytime, and even so I have been impressed with the number of people he has been able to contact.

If you haven't met David Samuelson yet, look for him in church on Sunday morning. He is faithful in worshiping God, and always glad to be introduced to new people. And if you would like to get more involved in helping me express the care of the church to all of our members and friends, please attend the Pastoral Partners orientation and training sessions coming up this month.

The first letter of John says, We love, because God first loved us. There is no greater joy than that of expressing God's love to others.

Grace and peace to you, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Pastor April
